We start with the basic numbers 1 to 10: eins (one) to zehn (ten). These are your building blocks. Next, we have elf (eleven) and zwölf (twelve) – memorize these as they are special. From 13 to 19, you generally add "zehn" to the base number, for instance, dreizehn (thirteen). Note minor changes in sechzehn (sixteen) and siebzehn (seventeen). Finally, we have zwanzig (twenty).
