Separable and Inseparable Verbs

Hello! Today, we'll explore separable (trennbare) and inseparable (untrennbare) verbs in German. It might seem complex at first, but it's quite straightforward! For separable verbs, the initial part, called a prefix, detaches and moves to the end of the sentence. For example, with anrufen (to call), you'd say: "Ich rufe dich an." Notice how an- moved. Conversely, inseparable verbs always keep their prefix attached. For instance, in verstehen (to understand), the ver- stays put: "Ich verstehe dich." Mastering this distinction is crucial, and practice will make it clear!
