Separable Verbs (Trennbare Verben) and Their Usage

Hi everyone! Today, let's learn about German Trennbare Verben, or "separable verbs." As the name hints, these verbs split in a sentence, with one part moving to a different position.

A separable verb combines a main verb and a prefix. In the simple present tense (Präsens), the prefix always moves to the very end of the sentence, while the main verb remains in its second position. For example, ankommen (to arrive) becomes "Ich komme um 8 Uhr an." (I arrive at 8 o'clock). See how the an- goes to the end!

Recognizing common prefixes like an-, auf-, aus-, mit- simplifies learning. Just practice and you'll master them!
