The Dative Case (To Whom/To What)

Hello everyone! Today, we're going to learn about the Dative case in German, which is very important. It answers the questions 'to whom' or 'to what' and shows the recipient of an action.

In the Dative case, the articles of nouns change. For masculine nouns like der Mann (the man), it becomes dem Mann (to the man). For feminine nouns like die Frau (the woman), it changes to der Frau (to the woman). Neutral nouns, like das Kind (the child), become dem Kind (to the child).

So, der and das change to dem, and die changes to der. For example, 'I give the man a book' is Ich gebe dem Mann ein Buch. Here, 'the man' is in the Dative case. With practice, you'll quickly master these rules!
