German Sentence Order – Verb Second (V2) Rule (A2)

Hello students! Today we'll learn one of the most crucial German grammar rules: the Verb Second (V2) principle. It's fundamental for correct sentence structure. In German, in regular declarative sentences, the conjugated verb always stands in the second position. No matter what comes first – the subject, a time expression, or a place – the verb immediately follows. For example, in Ich lerne Deutsch, lerne is second. If we say Heute lerne ich Deutsch, lerne remains second, even though "Heute" is now first. This rule will simplify your speaking and writing. Remember the verb is always second; practice makes perfect!
